Dr. Bedotto
Dr. Bedotto graduated from her doctoral program at the University of Denver in 1998. She completed her clinical internship and fellowship at The University of Miami/Jackson Memorial Medical Center. She was admitted to the faculty at UM/JMH following her fellowship and continued in her duties on inpatient and outpatient units serving adults with severe mental illness. Additionally, she trained psychology interns, practicum students, and psychiatric residents in psychological treatment and theory. At present, she runs her group practice and formed the South Florida DBT Consortium with two colleagues. She maintains her privileges at The University of Miami Miller School of Medicine in the Department of Psychiatry where she supervises psychiatric residents and consults with programs treating high risk individuals. Through the South FL DBT Consortium, she gives presentations on Dialectical Behavior Therapy in the South FL community. Dr. Bedotto has extensive experience in the treatment of the full spectrum of mental illness and specializes in personality disorders, mood disorders, and anxiety disorders including trauma/dissociation.
Dr. Bedotto’s approach to therapy is collaborative. Over the years, she has moved toward the Third Wave Cognitive Behavioral therapies that incorporate acceptance, mindfulness, and compassion in combination with evidenced – based cognitive behavioral therapy. There is a strong focus on positive psychology and less on pathology. She believes diagnosis is a necessary step to initiating treatment and guiding clinical thinking. Once therapy is underway, a person’s strengths and self-efficacy are essential ingredients for growth and healing.
Fun fact – Dr. Bedotto has taken her behavioral skills to the next level. She has been learning to train horses, her dog, and her temperamental Siamese cat.
